ESG Strategy & ESG Roadmap for an International Hotel Chain

The Client 

An international hospitality company headquartered in the United States, which is one of the largest hotel chains in the world, with brands ranging from upscale to economy.

Background 

EMEA Leadership Team identified the need to create and deliver an ESG strategy and roadmap for the region to attract future investment, enhance brand reputation, and deliver commercial returns. 

Scope of Work 

Lisa Basford conducted an audit of the client’s ESG activities, benchmarked against competitors. She conducted stakeholder interviews, and completed a materiality review to identify the priority themes for the organisation. 

She then developed a 3-year ESG strategy, setting Environmental. Social, and Governance targets for Year 1 based on the capabilities of the organisation, and a measurement framework that could be implemented and sustained by the organisation in the long term. The plan included initiatives such as: decarbonisation partnerships; energy, waste and water standards; responsible sourcing policy; employee wellbeing; charitable giving; volunteering; and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. 

Lisa used both her industry insight and knowledge of ESG disclosures, and referenced new legislation (eg UK Green Claims Code and EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) to advise the Client on regulation and the changing legislative landscape. 

Additionally Lisa developed the ESG narrative and calendar of communications to engage stakeholders.
